In order to get level select, when starting up hold left-down on the D-Pad and all of the gamegear buttons and wait a little while, until you hear 2 ring noises.
Secret Level (Crystal Egg Zone)
Get all the Chaos Emeralds, then finish Scrambled Egg Zone
