Pokemon Gold/Silver Cheats

In-game reset

While playing a game, press Start + Select + A + B to reset the game.

Faster credits display

During the credits, hold B.

Set time

Press Down + Select + B at the title screen. You will need to enter a password to change the time, based on your Trainer name, Trainer number, and money. The password can be calculated here: www.legendarypokemon.net/index.php?page=pass

Delete and restart game

Press Up + B + Select or Start at the title screen. You will be prompted if you are sure you want to delete your saved game. Select "Yes" and the menu will no longer have the continue option.

Hint: Apricorn balls

Go to Azalea Town and go due west. Near the gate at the north will be a house with a berry tree just above it. Go into the house and talk to the man ahead of you. Give him a apricorn you wish to turn it into a new type of pokeball. Exit the house and save the game. Turn off the game, then turn it back on. Use the "Set Time" cheat and change the day back or forward one day. Start the game and go back to the man you left with the apricorn. He will give you the ball.

Hint: Annon Pokedex

First, solve the Kabuto puzzle, which you should know how to get to. The rest will require the HM for Surf, found in Enjyu City, TM 08 (Rock Breaker), and the HM for Strength. Surf down by the Ancient Ruins (below Kickyou City) and solve the puzzle there. The puzzles should be somewhat easy. Just put in the corner pieces first. Then, go to the Connection Cave. Walk around and find the Pokemaniac. If you have not defeated him, fight him. Then Surf in the waters near him. You will have to return here twice. Break the rock you find, and solve the puzzle. Then return, move the boulder, and solve the last puzzle. Catch the different Annon, then exit the ruins. Talk to the scientist near the cave and he will give you a complimentary Annon Pokedex.

Hint: Ampharos/Denryuu

If you want a Pokemon rumored to be a pre-evolution of Dratini (Ampharos/Denryuu), do not try to de-evolve Dratini. Instead, go to the route after Kickyou City towards the Connection Cave, and try to capture the electric sheep, Meripu. Let it grow to level 15. It will evolve into a pink sheep. Train it to level 30 to get Ampharos/Denryuu.

Hint: Change Normal Pokemon to Shining Pokemon in Gold & Silver

If you want the full benefit of this code, use a Pokemon that can evolve. Otherwise, there will be some confusion with names and so forth. First, place a flying pokemon that has been taught to FLY, as the first pokemon in your lineup, the "Golden Gyarados" as the sixth position, and the pokemon whose color is to be changed in the second position. After doing this, put all of the pokemon back into the PC except the first one. Next, take out the pokemon that was in the second position before, the one that will be changed. Enter the bug-catching contest that is near Kogane city. This is held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. As soon as you enter it, exit right away. When the clerk asks you if you want to quit, make sure you say NO, which is always the lower answer. Now use your Flying Pokemon to FLY out of the contest. Store the pokemon that will be changed in a PC, then go back to the contest and say YES, the top answer, to complete the contest. Return to a PC, withdraw the pokemon, and check its status screen. The pokemon will be a different color, but it will have Gyarados's name. Grow the pokemon until it evolves. You may want to use Rare Candies if you have any. Now when you go into battle with the evolved form of the original pokemon, it will have a shining status.

Hint: Item Duplication

Equip a pokemon with a strong item, such as a Master Ball. Put a pokemon with FLY in the first position of your lineup. Put a very bad pokemon, such as Rattata, in your second slot, and put the pokemon with the item to be duplicated in your sixth slot. Put all of the pokemon into a PC box except for the first one. Take out the second one. Enter the Bug Catching contest, but exit it as soon as you enter. When the clerk asks you if you want to leave, say NO which is always the bottom answer. Go back in and use the flying pokemon to leave the contest. Deposit the second pokemon back into a PC. Go back to the contest and say YES, which is always the top answer, to finish. Now check your status screen. Your second pokemon should be in your possession, and it will have the item you wanted to be duplicated attached to it. Take the item away from it, then throw the pokemon away. You may do this as many times as you want to get the items you need.

Hint: Evade Wild Pokemon Encounters

This trick is VERY simple and I'm sure most professional gamers know about this, but this is for those newbies out there, if you are tired of battling wild pokemons or you just simply don't like battling them you could always cut down the tall grasses around you, just simply stand in the grassy area and use your pokemon (pokemon that already learned CUT) to cut the grassy areas, but this will take some time since it will only cut 2x2 of the area. By cutting the grassy areas, you don't have to worry about encoutering another wild pokemon again, well, to the areas you cut anyway... =)

Hint: Copy pokemon

First save in front of a pc. Then Log on and change to an empty box. Deposit the pokemon you want to copy (up to five can be copyed at once) And Change your poke mon box When it says "saving do not turn off the power" Switch it off! This works 95% of the time! WARNING! Do not withdraw any pokemon if you do they will be lost!!!! This cheat if done properly will not glitch up your game. I recommend you practice with weak pokemon first! Just to make sure you can do it!

Hint: Get the three starting pokemon

First you must have a continue game. Now play newgame then write any name and any time. After that go to prof.Utsugi the pick either chikorita , cindaquil or totodile. If you have a feraligatr in your continue game just pick chicorita or cindaquil. After picking go to Prof. Oak after the first city get the pokedex . Then Prof. Utsugi will call you now go back to the lab . But your rival will challenge you. waste of time if you ask me . If your back in the lab they will ask you what your rivals name is. Then the assistant will give you pokeballs. Now catch any pokemon in the wild. go to pokemon center then deposit your starting pokemon . Change box once it said saivig the game please wait... turn of the game boy . Now continue game at the pc check every box if you find the pokemon you cloned it means it worked . I already tried this. Now try it over and over again. NOTE: ones you did it . It wont be on your pokedex but ones it evolved you will have the data.

Hint: Lapras

Venture into azaleas far away cave /near anthonty yhe hiker/ then go into the second water way into another cave surf west up another ladder into anthoer cave then surf to the south and take the first left on land then walk south past the female trainer/ who says that she came 2 c a pkmn that only appears once a week/ then surf into the water on a friday and you should find a lAPRAS.remember there is only 1 lapras in the game so save game b4 trying 2 catch it good luck!

Hint: Turn any Pokeball into a Masterball

Throw the ball. When it's in midair press Up + B both at the same time and then let go. Then when the ball opens wide to catch the pokemon press and hold A + B at the same time until the pokemon is caught. If it doesn't work try again and it'll work.

Hint: Multiply Pokemon

In order to breed any pokemon you already have, just breed that Pokemon with a Ditto. Since Ditto will breed anything, it's easy to get a level five version of any of your pokemon. Try this with Eevee or any of his evolutions to get all the Eevee evolutions!

Hint: Pokemon and Item Duplication

There is a SEVERE WARNING before this code. If you make a mistake, you may lose the pokemon instead of duplicating it. First, determine which pokemon you wish to clone. Make sure you don't have over 5 pokemon in your lineup. Any item that your pokemon is carrying when it is cloned will duplicate also. Put the pokemon you wish to clone in a box on a PC. Change boxes. As the game is saving, turn off the power. When you turn it back on, there should be two of the pokemon you wanted to clone.

Hint: Fight Pokemon Trainers Forever

In Gold & Silver, there are some very special trainers. Some of these are the man near the entrance of "Ice Shortcut", a girl near the entrance of Victory Road in route 26, and a man on route 28. After defeating these people, say "Yes" to their question, and they will give you their phone number. Continue on your journey, and sometimes they will call you back for a rematch!

Hint: Rare Pokemon Trick

When you come to a rare pokemon that you can only catch once, such as Usocky, Lugia, or Houou, go right next to the pokemon but do not press any buttons. Save your game immediately. Now fight the pokemon as usual. If you catch him, then don't worry, you don't need the code. If you lose, however, or you accidentally kill the pokemon, shut off the game without saving. When you turn it back on, you will be right in front of the pokemon and you have another chance to catch him. You can keep doing this until you finally capture it!

Hint: Save Time

When you arrive in Enjyu City, head straight to the tower. Your rival will confront you there, but he will not fight you. This saves time because if you get the Gym Badge first and then go to the tower, your rival will fight you.

Hint: How to Get Ho-oH as Your First Pokemon

Take 20 or more pokeballs then cut down any tree, now get to where the tree was and save your game. Then shut the game boy off. Then back on and find a Ditto in 3:00 minutes. Then save and shut off the game. Now start a new game and you got Ho-oH.

Hint: Clone Pokemon (Without a link or second gameboy):

Go to the pokemon Center. Open PC and deposit 2 desired pokemon. It MUST be 2 pokemon. No more. No less. Deposit these two pokemon in any box except box 6. Now go to box 6 and when your saving and it says not to turn off the power, turn it off. When you turn it back on, the two pokemon you deposited should be in your party. Those are the clones! The two original pokemon should be in the box you deposited! You can do this over and over. My friend got a bunch of L:95 Typhlosion!

Hint: How to Breed Pokemon

First go to the daycare center with the old man and the old lady. ( I have only breeded the pokemon that are listed in the Game Faq). Give the male pokemon to the old man and the female to the old lady. This code takes a long time. Whenever you see the old man standing outside it means the pokemon made an egg. Its takes the same as when Togepi's egg hatched.

Hint: Bellosum/Kirehana

Give Gloom a Solar Stone and it will evolve into Bellosum/Kirehana. Note: You cannot evolve Bellosum/Kirehana into Vileploom.

Hint: Gold Gyarados

Go to the fourth gym and Surf right all the way. You will Surf in the water, where you should see a Gyarados. Battle it, and it will be golden.

Hint: Ho-Oh/Hou-Hou (Gold version)

Go to the city with the fourth gym. Then, go inside the house with another house beside it. Climb up and enter the other big house. Climb up until you get to Ho-Oh/Hou-Hou.

Hint: Ho-Oh/Hou-Hou (Silver version)

Go to Pewter City and talk to the old man that walks around. He will give you a gold feather. Then, go to the place where Ho-Oh/Hou-Hou is located in the Gold version to find it.

Hint: Kingdra

Equip Seadra with the Symbol of King, and then trade it.

Hint: Lapras

Enter the cave in the second city and Surf. You should be able to see Lapras. Note: There is only one.

Hint: Lugia (Silver version)

Learn HM06 (Whirlpool) and go to the place where you received the fifth badge. Destroy a whirlpoor and enter the cave. Go through the maze and you will reach Lugia.

Hint: Lugia (Gold version)

Go to Pewter City and talk to the old man. He will give you a silver feather. Then, go to the place where Lugia is located in the Gold version to find it.

Hint: Muchuru

Breed Jynx with anything that has the same symbol while looking at your party to get Muchuru.

Hint: Pikachu

Transfer a Pikachu from Pokemon Yellow into the game. It should have an item directly translated to "Electric Ball". Equip it to any Pikachu, and its special attack will double.

Hint: Slowking

Equip Slowpoke with the Symbol of King, and then trade it.

Submitted By: madmadmax

Hint: Steelix/Haganal

Equip the Metal Coat on Onix and trade it to another Game Boy. It will evolve into Steelix/Haganal.

Hint: Three legendary dogs

Go to the city with the fourth gym and enter the big house. Break the rocks and fall down one of the holes to wake them up. Then, go outside and try to find them in the wild.

Hint: Togepi

Defeat the first gym and go into the Pokecenter. Talk to the scientist and he will give you a egg. After 5,000 steps, it will hatch into Togepi.

Hint: Tyrogue/Buruki

Go to the city with the fourth gym. Then, go inside the second cave, turn to the right and Surf. Go to the top and enter the other cave that is there. Make your way around the mazes and talk to the karate character that is there. Defeat him to get Tyrogue/Buruki. Note: Make sure you have an open space in your Pokemon holder.

Hint: Yadoking

Equip Symbol Of King on Slowpoke and trade it into another GameBoy. It will evolve into Yadoking.

Hint: Female Mr. Mime (Gold version)

Go to Saffron City before fighting Sabrina. Challenge Sabrina to discover that her Mr. Mime is female.

Hint: Enjyu City battle (Gold version)

When you go to Enjyu City, go to the tower and your rival will appear, but will not battle. However, if you first heal your Pokemon at the Pokecenter, defeat the Ghost Gym Leader, and then go to that tower, your rival will talk to you and fight.

Hint: Monorail ticket

Go to Saffron City and talk to the girl copycat. Fly to Vermilion City and talk to everyone in the house where you received the bike voucher. Someone will give you the Clefairy doll. Take it to the copycat to get the monorail ticket.

Hint: Metal Coat

Collect all eight badges, then talk to Professor Utigi (the person from the start of the game). He will give you the S.S. Anne ticket. Go to the city where the Gym Leader was first not there. Go inside the house at the shore, the person will let you go through, and you will be on the S.S. Anne. You will meet a man that wants you to find his daughter on the ship. You can find her with the captain. Return her to her father, then go back and talk to the captain to receive the Metal Coat.

Hint: King's Symbol

Go to the town where you had to rescue the Slowpokes from the Rockets. Enter the cave where you got the Slowpokes from the two Rockets. Use Strength and push the boulder, then Surf in the pond. Find the ladder, go to it, and Surf. Talk to everyone there in that part of the cave. Someone will give you the King's Symbol.

Hint: Anno'un Music

While in the Alpha Ruins southeast of Kikyou city go to the Pokegear option in the menu screen. Go to the radio option and on the fourteenth to the twentieth channel you can find a station Called ??????. That is the Ann'oun Music. It can only be heard at Alpha Ruins.

Hint: Infinite Nuts, Ant. Nuts, or Conf. Nuts

Go to the plant with the desired nut and take the nut. Call someone (it does not matter who), then take another nut. You can do this as many times as needed.

Submitted By: madmadmax

Hint: Breeding Pokemon

You cannot breed every type of Pokemon, although some are male or female (like Mewtwos). They still cannot be bred together.

Hint: Clone Pokemon

Put the Pokemon to be cloned in your group, then deposit it in box 5. Save your game. Go to box 6 and save the game again. In box 5 your group will now have the two Pokemon that were cloned.

Hint: Breed without the other half

You do not need another of the same Pokemon to breed. Get the Pokemon you want to breed and put it as male or female. Get Ditto, place it with the male or female, and let the breeding begin.

Hint: Items from Time Capsule Pokemon

When you use the Time Capsule to trade with the other Pokemon games, every Pokemon that comes from the Red, Blue, or Yellow versions will have an item equipped with them. Some will just have berries, but others have better things.

Hint: Defeating Ash

Create a Pokemon team with different types; Grass, Psychic, Devil, Fire, Water, and Steel recommended. Each Pokemon should be level 65 or higher. If not, make sure you have a large amount of Hyper Potions and Revives.

Hint: Recommended Team and Strategy

First i will give a recommended team and moveset then the strategy to beat the elite 4.

- Ampharos:
Thunderpunch
Firepunch
Thunder wave
Strength

- Jynx:
Ice Punch
Sweet Kiss
Psychic
Icy Wind

- Typlosion:
Flame Wheel
Thunderpunch
Earthquake
Swift

- Fearow:
Fly
Mud Slap
Fury Attack
Leer

- Gyarados (preferably red gyarados because you find it already at level 30):
Twister
Waterfall
Bite
Thunder (which you can get at the game corner in goldenrod)

- Haunter/Gengar:
Shadow Ball
Hypnosis
Ice Punch
Thunderpunch

Strategy: Will, the first of the elite four, has a common weakness to electric and fire, so throw Ampharos out there and spam Thunder/Firepunches

Koga also is weak against fire and electric, with the exception of Muk which can be annoying. But if you put Typlosion first, you should have no plrblem. Use Firepunch on the bugs and Earthquake on Muk for big damage. Crobat always uses Double Team first so hit it hard with thunderpunch.

Bruno is easily taken out with a Psychic or Flying type, so you have a choice between Fearow and Jynx here. With Fearow, use Fly for the 2x damage of a supereffective hit on all the fighting types and Mud Slap on Onix with a few Leers thrown in there. Just be weary of his hitmonchan because of Ice/Thunderpunch. With Jynx, you can pretty much get easy KO's with one hit of Psychic, and take out Onix with Ice Punch.

Kathryne the dark type is very annoying with her Umbreon, it uses sand attack followed by Confuse Ray. So send out your Typlosion with a Bitter Berry and keep hitting it with Swift which never misses. Her Gengar can cause some trouble too, but most of the time it will use curse, so send out your Haunter/Gengar and hit it with Shadow Ball which is super effective. Her Vileplume is pretty much a joke, just use a Psychic, Firepunch, Fly, or Icepunch and it is down, that goes for Murkrow too. Now her Houndoom is where the trouble is at, it uses Crunch which sometimes lowers your special defence and hits hard, but if you get Gyarados out there, a waterfall should KO it fairly easily.

Finally, Lance the Dragon master. He isnt all he's cracked up to be, he just hits hard with Hyper Beam. His first pokemon is Gyarados at level 44, send out your ampharos and watch as he gets KOed from Thunderpunch. After that he will send out one of his Dragonites, switch to you Genger for the best fight because his pride and joy Hyper Beam cant hit it. Then wittle it down with Icepunch until it is KOed. You can repeat that process with all the Dragonites, the level 50 is a little harder though because of Outrage, but after 2 turns of it it will confuse him, so hit it hard then with your Ice fury. All that leaves is Aerodactyl and Carizard, which are both incredibly fast, so dont go out expecting the first blow. Just send out Gyarados against Charizard and hit it with Waterfall or Thunder, but you'll have to switch for Aerodactyl which can get a supereffective Rcokslide in on you if you arent careful. To Finish Aerodactyl, Send out your Ampharos once again and hit it with Thunderpunch.

And there you go! You just waltzes right through the Elite Four!

Hint: How to beat the eigth gym leader and get your badge

As you can assume, beating the 8th gym leader is VERY hard. this is my guide to beat and get your 8th badge! If your starter pokemon was a Cyndiquil, this guide would especially help you, because I made this guide based on the typlosion route to victory, as it is hard to beat Claire with a Typlosion. If you have a Magainium, this guide is not for you, as a Magainium could easily beat her. If you have Feraligator, this guide would sorta help you, but I have never got NEAR getting far in the game, as I always got stuck when you have to battle your rival in Azalea town, because with that razor leaf of his, ohhhhhh that gives a naaaaaaaaasty kick to it. anyways, I need to start the guide part.

When you get to claire, as far as I remember, the first pokemon she sends out is a level 35 seadra. Don't use typlosion just yet. Use your 3rd most pokemon, and makesure it knows fly. Use fly until it faints. Then, she sends out dragonair. Watch out! The first move is to use fly! And maybe another bird type move like gust, or maybe hypnosis.(hypnosis recommended)then, use fly. Use fly until it faints. Switch pokemon, because it probaly fainted also. Use your second most powerful pokemon. (Must know dragonrage, fly, dig, or rocksmash. Use dragonrage on claire's second dragonair. Then, use fly until it faints. Now, here is the tough part-Claire sends out-KINGDRA!(it's level 40!) Use your typlosion! (must know dig, swift, strength, and cut.) First, use dig. Then, strength. Then, dig, as kingdra will use either ice beam, or hyper beam. Use dig again. Then strength, then dig. Then swift. Finally, use strength. Tada! (Might be wrong, but I gave my best effort, and it's harder than it sounds, I battled her 6 times, then finally won.)But, she won't give you the last badge. don't panic, all you have to do is go to dragon's den, and when you get to the entrance, the man won't be blocking it. Go through. surf south-west, then go east, then go to the land with an item on it, and that's dragon's fang. Then, claire comes and gives you your badge and tells you how to get to the kanto region. Now, your on your own!

Secret: How to get the item in national park that is behind the fence

To get the item behind the fence in national park, go to the guy on the top right of national park. Next to him on the right, or atleast near him on the right, there is a portion of fence missing. Then go through it. Then walk all the way down on the right, and you will be able to obtain that item and go all the way back up, don't go out, and go all the way to the oposite way, (left) and you will see 2 paths. Go to both, and you will have all the items in national park. When I went through the gap, I thought it was a glitch or something. But i figured out that it's not a glitch.

Secret: Raiku, Entei and Suecoon (silver version)

Go to Ecruteak City, then go to burnt tower.(very top left of city, has a girl infront of it)(note: make sure one of your pokemon knows rocksmash.)Your rival will be there. Battle him. He'll be easy to beat.(especially if you have a level 24 poliwag! I beat all my rivals pokemon with a level 24 poliwag!then it leveled up to level 25 and evolved into poliwhirl.) Then go northwest. You will see a rock that is smashable. use rock smash. Then continue. There will be aa firbreather with a charmeleon. He is also easy to beat. Then go fall down the whole that is small and shaped like a square. You will be in the underground part. Infront of you, there will be stairs. Walk up. Before you even get to the platform, you automatticly stop, while seeing three pokemon, with stripes on there heads, one red, one blue, and one yellow. They will all have that ! sign above there heads and they will all run away in three different directions. That was Entei, Raiku, and Suecoon. Rarely, you will encounter them(not all at the same time)and after you make your first move in battle, they run away. hint: it would be alot easyer to weaken them without them running away when you wanna catch them if you had a gastly as your first pokemon to pop out, and when it pops out first, imediatly use mean look, so then they won't be able to escape. make sure you have an ultra ball, or else you wouldn't be able to catch it.

Secret: How to get to the Kanto regieon (silver version)

This walkthrough to Kanto is a reminder if you forgot what Claire said, and the requirements.

Requirements:
Dragon's Fang(increases dragon-type moves)
8th gym badge

Directions: First, this is a note, if you got dig,(which I explained how not much farther above)and if one of your pokemon with you knows dig, use dig.(on land.)Then, when you are out of Dragon's Den, and if you are carrying a pokemon that knows fly, fly to New Bark Town. (Where the game starts)Then, if you have a pokemon with you that knows surf, which is required, use surf when you get to the water.(east)Then, keep surfing until you reach land. There will be a guy,(fat, lol)and he automaticly greets you and says: "It's your first step onto Kanto!" which is pointless, and make sure you have your strongest pokemon with you, and atleast one of your pokemon with you knows waterfall! Then, go inside the only cave there, anduse surf, then once at the waterfall, press "A" infront of the waterfall, say yes and surf along the water's path until you get to land. Then get outside, and go to the house that should be near you. I forgot if you battle a girl with a Venosaur before you get to the house or after.... anyways, either if you battle her before you get inside the house, just go inside the house, and talk to the old lady, and if she says your pokemon are capable of her gift, say yes and she will give you sandstorm. the rest is for you to do on your own!

Note: if a pokemon that knows sandstorms uses it in battle, both the opponent and your pokemon get hurt. use it at your own risk!

Secret: How to get a secret item that is not known by many people

I forgot what the item is, but I am going to tell how to get it. First, get the red scale from the red garydos, then go to Mr. Pokemon, and he will be amazed, and give you the not well known item. Note: the item is not required to advance in the game, but I know it's useful.
